Red Ball One

The first stage of the SPORTIME U10 tennis pathway is specifically designed for young players between the ages of 5 and 7 who are just beginning to play the game. During this stage, players utilize the appropriate-sized Red Court, which measures 36 feet, and play with low compression red balls. The Red Court and ball are specifically tailored to the needs and abilities of young players at this developmental stage.

About

In U10 Red One, the primary focus is on teaching players the fundamental skills of serving, rallying, and scoring on the Red Court. The net height is lower, allowing players to experience success in clearing the net with their shots. This encourages and motivates the youngest players to actively participate in the game and commit to learning new skills.

Within the Red One stage, players concentrate on key aspects of the game. They learn to track the ball, which involves developing the ability to follow the ball's trajectory and movement. This skill is crucial for positioning themselves effectively on the court and preparing for the next shot.

Another important aspect for Red One players is learning to move into optimal hitting positions. This involves understanding how to position themselves in relation to the incoming ball, enabling them to hit the ball with better control and consistency.

Additionally, players in Red One focus on directing the ball using basic stroke shapes. They learn the fundamental techniques for groundstrokes, volleys, and overhead shots. The emphasis is on developing the basic mechanics and understanding of these strokes, allowing players to make consistent contact with the ball and direct it with some control.

By introducing young players to actual gameplay from the start, the U10 Red One stage increases their motivation to learn and acquire new skills. Playing the game fosters a sense of engagement and enjoyment, which contributes to their overall development and enthusiasm for the sport.

In summary, the U10 Red One stage of the SPORTIME tennis pathway provides a nurturing and age-appropriate environment for young players between 5 and 7 years old. They learn the basics of serving, rallying, and scoring on the Red Court, focusing on tracking the ball, moving into effective hitting positions, and directing the ball using basic stroke shapes. Playing the game from the beginning enhances their motivation to learn and develop new skills, setting a strong foundation for their tennis journey.

SPORTIME U10 players enjoy free walk-on privileges with a parent for FREE and are encouraged to participate in the SPORTIME World Tour, our tournaments celebrating the Grand Slam tournaments, throughout the year.  Membership is required.

“My son has been going to SPORTIME since he was 4. He thinks of the kids his age and older as friends, and all the coaches as great teachers and mentors. The tennis instruction is excellent—as well as demanding if you so desire for your child—and kids have fun in a great environment. I have never seen coaches so good and patient with children.”
